Robert “Rob” B. Hughes | News, Sports, Jobs

Robert “Rob” B. Hughes, 66, of Muncy, died peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Gatehouse at UPMC Williamsport. He fought in a brave twelve-year battle with cancer with the help of family, friends and many doctors, nurses and support staff at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport.

Rob was born on August 8, 1954 in Tyrone, in the family of the late Robert C. and Jane B. Hughes. He married his beloved wife Barbara on July 2, 1983 in Pittsburgh. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Scott (Katie) from West Springfield, Va .; son Kevin of Delran, NJ; two grandchildren, Olivia and Joshua; grandson Jack and sister Ann Rourk of Dry Ridge, Ky. He considered the wife of his son Katie and family friend Chelsea DeKnecht (Derek) as his daughters. He was honored to perform the wedding ceremony of Chelsea and Derek.

In addition to his parents, several couples played significant roles in his life and he considered them other parents. They include his aunt Carol and Uncle Jack Brantner of Tyrone, Marilyn and the late Merle Bickle of Tyrone and Diana, and the late Dick Confair of Williamsport. He also considered his nurses Michelle, Janelle and Elaine to be his family.

Rob graduated from high school in Tyrone in 1972 and credited the late Mr. Max Kimmel, his sixth-grade teacher, with a much better student. He graduated in business administration in 1976 from Indiana University in Pennsylvania and thanks Mr. Donald Robbins and others. Robert Stonebraker on great success in college.

After college, Rob went to work for Deloitte Haskins and Sells, where he became a certified public accountant in 1978, and thanks Walter Meck for a great mentor. He later held various management positions at HJ Heinz, Carey-McFall Corporation, Lunaire Limited, the Confair family companies and most recently at JPW Design & Manufacturing, Inc.

Rob was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Montoursville where he was an elder, trustee, and treasurer at various times. He was active in the Muncy Little League for many years as a coach and board member. Rob also loved teaching others about personal financial planning and didn’t miss the opportunity to tell young people that they should start a Roth IRA at an early age.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm Street, Montoursville, PA 17754. Please adhere to guidelines for social removal and wearing masks.

Instead of flowers, they can be donated to the Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Please specify donations to support the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport.
